An investment group that can ask its own numbers
An owner-led European investment group operating two legal entities. Anonymized by agreement.
The situation
Two legal entities. Invoices arriving in inboxes, bank statements in download folders, payment confirmations scattered between the two. Reconciliation lived in spreadsheets and in the memory of the founder and his advisers. Every bank request or investor question triggered days of assembly work, and errors stayed invisible until they surfaced at the worst moment.
Why this was not an automation job
These numbers underwrite bank and investor conversations. If reconciliation runs wrong for a week, the cost is not annoyance; it is material. The workflow had every marker Renaix looks for: information fragmented across documents and systems, repeated human interpretation, exceptions needing judgment, and real consequence when it goes wrong.
What Renaix built
A governed production system spanning both entities. Every document family is ingested and validated into one structured operational source of truth. Matching and validation are deterministic; AI is used only where interpretation creates value, under explicit controls. Exceptions route to human review, and human decisions are final. Access is role-scoped, and every figure stays linked to the source document behind it.
The same verified foundation powers two delivery modes: committed reports produced from live, reconciled data, and a governed Finance Agent through which the CEO queries the numbers directly.
Diagnosed, built, and operated by the same accountable team, with nothing lost between the people who designed the system and the people who run it.
Governance you can see
The system shows its uncertainty instead of hiding it. Transactions that cannot be matched are never forced; they surface as exceptions with the evidence needed to resolve them. And the Finance Agent answers only from reconciled records. Asked for a forecast, it declines: outside verified scope. That refusal is the point. An answer you cannot trust is worse than no answer.
In operation today
New documents keep arriving and the books stay current. Reporting is produced from the live system instead of reconstructed each period. The CEO asks questions on his own schedule and gets answers with the evidence behind them, with no dependency on anyone's availability.
Hundreds of documents processed across both entities. Bank transactions matched to the cent, with the unmatched handful surfaced as exceptions rather than buried. Every figure traceable to its source document.
The same anatomy runs contracts, correspondence, reporting, and operational exceptions. Finance is where we proved it first.
